Bathroom Remodel

These are some cabinets I made pretty much from scraps. We tore down an old trailer and I used a bunch of wood and plywood from that. My son in-law gave me the sink and I wanted it to look like an 19th century dresser. Look at a couple of styles and came up with this design.

Cedar Display Case

I made this out of scraps and stuff I had laying around. I measured the the glass. Found a few pieces of glass that had a curve cut into them. At first I thought I would make it wide with three curved shelves but figured out I didn’t have enough wood for it. I did a little more digging and found 4 smoked glass shelves. Figuring out how wide the display case had to be for the shelves to word I remembered I had an old cedar table that was made in the 40’s so I thought I take it apart and use it for the bottom and top shelves. I had a mirror that I bought over 40 years ago from a guy who told me it was from the 1890’s.

When I took the old table apart it just shattered so I had to glue a bunch of the broken pieces together to make a shelf.  The glue wasn’t holding after couple of hours so I decided to screw the whole together and plug the screw holes.

I didn’t have enough cedar after all and I wasn’t able to buy more so I used a piece of poplar on the top. My goal was to make the case out of scrapes and I think it turned out pretty good for a new antique.

1. Went through the scraps
Went through my glass I have had for years and found these curved shelves

2. Found these shelves
Then I found this smoked glass

3. Drew out the idea with sizes
The I drew out the idea which I changed when I started putting it together

4. Wanted to get it exact
Wanted to get it exact had a limited amount of cedar

5. Went through my wood scraps
Went through my wood scraps and found a bunch of cedar

6. Ran some through the thickness planer
Then I ran it through the thickness planer

7. Made the sides
Made the sides made rabbit joints so both sides could be finished

8. Checked to make sure the glass fit
Checked to make sure the glass fit because of the limited amount of wood I had

9. Took the old table apart
Took the old Table apart but it shattered

10. The table top shattered
The table top just shattered pieces of it laying to the left of it

Started boxing the case up

12. Didn't have enough
Didn’t have enough long pieces so I spiced so together

13. glue not holding
Didn’t figure it out till later but the glue wasn’t holding. I read on the glue bottle it was supposed to dry for 24 hours. Any glue I had use before only took an hour to dry so screwed it together and plugged the holes

14. Added the frame
Added the frame and a knot broke off I had to glue it back in place

15. Ran out of cedar
Ran out of cedar so I use pine to make the Mirror Frame

Test Fit
Test fitting the shelves mainly because I wanted to see how they looked in the case

Stained
Stained the frame mahogany to come closer to matching the rest of the wood

Curved piece
Added a peice to the bottome to hide the legged I had to add so that it could be adjusted

Added walnut piece
Had some walnut layong around so I added it to help hold the spliced pieces together

Mirror frame stained and installed
Mirror frame stained and installed

adding pieces
Adding more walnut pieces

ADDED POPLAR TOP
Had a piece of poplar laying around so I made the top out of it.

Stained
Stained the top to come closer to looking like the rest of the case

all glass shelves
Couldn’t wait to see it with the shelves

Shelves 2
Hard to tell the frame for the mirror is not cedar.

Added the mirror
Put the mirror in and siliconed it in place. The tube said clear and it did turn clear after a while

Look without shelves
Wanted to see it with just the mirror not bad for a mirror that is supposed to be over 100 years old

Finished
5 Coats of clear poly and shelves added

another view
Not too bad for made out of scraps

Shelby Cobra Coffee Table

I made this table for my grand daughter. She was studying to be a Vet and wanted an snake in it. So I am a mustang lover and said how about this snake? She took a look and said ok and when I told her it was from a Shelby Cobra she loved it. It is 27 inches deep 41 inches wide and 18 inch tall. Tall enough so that she could use it as a table to eat off of.

The apartment was  really small so I made it tall so she could work on her computer on it and made places to keep books and papers and other things kind of like a desk. It is on wheels so it can be easily be moved around. There is a drawer in the back for blankets or whatever.

She wanted big hinges so I used the ones from our old gate to our pool. Made from solid pine except the drawer bottom and it is from an old mirror.

Tall Tree Of Life Coffee Table

This solid pine distressed table is 26 inches wide 50 inches long and 23 3/4 inches tall. It was made tall because the person ordering it is pretty tall and dogs that tend to knock stuff off with their tails. It has a lift top with a small drawer under that lifts when the top does. The drawer can be turned over and used as a mouse pad our whatever you want the extra space for. The table is stained with a honey stain and finished with a wipe on poly. The top graphics are pyrography and the front and back have a texture add with a hand carved celtic knot in the center. Made to match tree entrainment center and the butler table listed on this site. Tree Entertainment Center

This is a solid pine entertainment center I designed and built. Stained with Miniwax Honey with a hand rubbed poly finish. It is 65 inches wide 18 inches deep and 28 inches tall.

This one has an old floor from the 40’s as a back.  I don’t have anymore flooring so making one with that wouldn’t be possible. You would have to contact tamet@ebarrelracing.com on pricing for any carving that could be added.  You can click on a photo to enlarge it.

Chair That Folds into a Table

This is a chair that folds down into a table. Repairing and upgrading for my good friend Karen Harrison.

Karen Harrison passed away April 17, 2017,

I finally got back to getting this finished after 4 years.

This was a tuff one for me but it is finally finished and ready to go home.

If  a piece of furniture is worth keeping it should be kept in a climate control building. Heating it up from the summer  and cooling it down in the winter in a storage building will in the end just make the wood expand and contract to the point of coming apart.
